Mauterndorf Airfield in SalzburgerLand is the highest alpine airfield in Austria, a gathering spot for glider pilots from around the world. Due to its unique location in the Lungau basin, the airfield benefits from extended periods of exceptional thermals.

Gliding is possible, in so far as the airfield is free of snow, from April until late into October. Motorized flights from 1 May until 30 September (in winter, ski planes), PPR.

Winches and tows are available for glider take-off. A special experience: guests can book glider flights and tours (on motorized planes) of the Tauern mountains.
